The name of the Indian Ocean is highly called for more than half the people living on its shores are Indian. The Indian largest Ocean in the world, comprising more than 28 million square miles. In area, it can accommodate the entire North American Continent three times over and still have of Europe. It lies between Australia, South Asia, Africa and Antarctica stretching from Suez to Tasmania (Australia) and cape Town to Singapore and Darwin. The settled limits of the Indian Ocean are as follows : (a) The dividing line between the Atlantic and Indian Ocean is the meridianof Cape Agulhas (20° O’E); (b) the dividing line between the pacific and the Indian Oceans is the meridian of the south-East Cape of Tasmania (14°O’E), the western exit of the Bass Strait and the median line between North-West Australia and the peninsula of Malaya (the Cape of Talbot through Timor, Sumba, Flores and Sunda islands, up to Sumatra); (c) the dividing line between the Antarctic Ocean and the Indian Ocean is the 60°0′ South latitude.1 There are thirty-six littoral and hinterland states embracing-the stretch of the Indian Ocean. Afghanistan, Australia, Bahrain, Bhutan, Botswana,’ Burma, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kenya, Kuwa it, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Oatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Swaziland, Thailand, .Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Yemen (Arab Republic), Yemen (People’s Republic) and Zambia. India-occupies a leading and significant position in Indian Ocean. It projects nearly 1,500 miles into the Indian Ocean and on both sides it has is lands Andamans and Nicobars on one side and Lakshadweep on the other. One of the Indian Ocean.
