The book contains Eight Chapters with tables and graphs. The Chapter I being introduction, the Chapter II reviews the previous studies that have analyzed India’s agricultural export performance. The chapter critically examined the results of some of the macro-economic studies that have looked into the effects of trade liberalization in general and of WTO agreements in particular. The Chapter III discusses the various provisions made under the WTO and India’s commitment for the promotion of world trade. This chapter demonstrates how liberalized trade and a trade regime based on multilateral negotiations are important for smooth and profitable conduct of trade. An assessment of the impact of the AoA on Indian agriculture and what kind of strategies suit India in the given circumstances are also elaborated. Chapter IV discusses on the various conferences that were held under WTO regime to promote agriculture and AoA. All the Ministerial conferences that have been taken place under WTO regime have been discussed in detail. Over the last six decades of Indian planning, the perception about the importance of external sector in economic development had gone through a number of changes. All the changes that have taken place under the various Five-Year Plan periods to promote agricultural commodities as one of the prime export-items and institutional frame work have been discussed in the Chapter V. Chapter VI discusses trends and determinants of India’s agri exports at aggregate and disaggregate levels. The impact of WTO on India’s agri-exports is also presented in this chapter. Realizing the importance of agriculture exports to India’s agricultural economy, Government of India has taken various promotional measures to boost agriculture exports. Chapter VII mainly focuses on the emerging issues under WTO. The last Chapter attempts to present conclusions on the impact of WTO on Agricultural exports from India and their policy implications.
